Cube Shaped KBO on Course for Earth

Nasa scientists have discovered a new Kuiper Belt Object that will make a close approach to earth in 2019. The object is nearly a perfect cube in shape. and measures roughly 1500 miles across. Right now it is well past the orbit of pluto, but will make an approach to Earth in 2019. It is not predicted to collide with earth. However, the object does appear to have the ability to change its course.

What? No comments? Oh well!
April Fools!

In the book of Revelation a new Jerusalem is described as descending from heaven. It is described as a cube that is 1500 miles on each side.

The photo is a doctored picture of one of the new photos of the Martian moon Phobos, which is named after the greek god of fear. I thought that was appropriate.

I picked the year 2019 because it is 7 years after 2010. 2010 is the next year that some nuts are predicting the tribulation to start.

I did make one minor mistake, that I noticed right away, but I left it in to give a clue that my article was a hoax. The New Jerusalem is supposed to descend after the millenium or the 1000 year reign of christ on the earth. So that year that it comes to earth should have been 3019.

"NASA Scientists" is always a red flag. NASA is percieved as an authority on astronomic events, but most discoveries of Kuiper Belt Objects are made by other organizations.

"However, the object does appear to have the ability to change its course."

That statement is about as extraordinary as you can get. If a space object was seen to have changed course, it would be the discovery of the century. Normal ice balls in the Kuiper Belt orbit lazily around the sun in their orbits, which are very predictable.

Well, I guess I didn't fool anybody. Better luck next time. I'm hoping to hook some nuts over on facebook with this story.

Not necessarily. Celestial objects can affect each others' course (perturbation) and it's not always predictable (even when it happens due to more predictable sources, like Jupiter).

As for another mistake, you named the photo "faked-photo.jpg". It should have been something like "really-real-photo-i-swear.jpg" ;)

Well, I did that on purpose too. I was trying to give as many subtle clues as I could. Maybe, I just no good at lying. I guess I never would have made it as a preacher. Oh well, better luck next Atheist Day.

-sigh-

lie: a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth.

i'm really sick of atheists not understanding the definition of that word or more likely understanding it and using it anyway even when it clearly doesn't apply .even if preachers ARE giving their respective flocks incorrect information - they are NOT lying to them. they believe what they are saying whether its true or not. if God truly exists i wouldn't say then that YOU were a liar. its a little despicable trick of language that jerks like bill maher and christopher hitchens use all the time.

i read your blog regularly and appreciate your total lack of vitriolic speech. i guess i expected better from you.

Not necessarily.

For me to have been a preacher, I most certainly would have to have lied. I didn't believe a lot of stuff that I would have had to teach. So, cool your jets. The statement is positively true for myself.

I agree, I don't consider a sincere falsehood a lie.
