Muslim Groom Didn't Like Wedding Night Surprise!

Read this story from BBC.

It seems that a man in Dubai was upset that his bride didn't look exactly like the pictures that were presented to him. She was cross-eyed and had chin fuzz. So, his government let him divorce (annul) her.

I can't feel sorry for him. His religious superstitions made it where he wouldn't even get to see what she looked like until the wedding night. Besides, why should it matter? They keep their women bundled up in gowns so tight that there's not one square inch of skin visible. Who would know, huh?

Maybe, she is a sweet girl and very intelligent and a manic under the sheets. Oh, that's right! Those are qualities that are unbecomming a muslim girl. However, I'm sure she has the ability to pop out babies. Really, isn't that all that matters to Islam?

I am truly disgusted with Islam's treatment of women.

No, Robert. That's what matters to all agriculturalist cultures (specifically, the ability to produce sons). It isn't unique to Islam or even theism. It is a familiar aspect among all agriculturalists, regardless of religion.

I agree that it doesn't line up with my cultural ethics, and Islam might even enable it in some ways, but it has less to do with Islam and much, much more to do with the fact that their culture has agricultural roots.

I suppose you're right. I just moved into the area where the Duggars live. Of course, there's a strong agricultural society here as well. However, holy books such as the quran and the bible encourage the prolific lifestyle. The Duggars most certainly point to the bible as a guide for there insane reproduction.

I think I was getting more to the point of women's role in Islam (and other religions). Islam and Fundamentalist Christianity have rules to keep women in their places whether or not a agricultural society is prominent in the area.

I have attended many bible studies that lay out the duties of the wife in a christian marriage. Usually, that entails the man being the bread winner and the wife staying home doing what? Raising new bible warriors of course.

Furthermore, I didn't say that baby making was unique to Islam. I just said that that's what the woman's job is in Islam.

Then again, I may be guilty of painting Islam with a broad brush. And, that wrong. I appollogize for that.
