Well, the kid did go to the prom with his sweetie. For that, he'll be suspended from school and he'll receive an incomplete for the remainder of the semester. That christian principal couldn't see past his self-righteous, legalistic, intolerant, narrow minded expectations as to what a christian should be long enough to let a 17 year old boy be a teen-ager for just a few hours.
Here's a choice quote from Principal England.
Should a Christian place themselves at an event where young ladies will have low cut dresses and be dancing in them? Isn't it contrary to the example of Joseph and the (Bible) verses I have stated?
No England, Joseph in the Bible refused the advances of a married woman. Frost just wanted to take his girlfriend to a once in a lifetime event. I don't think that's the same things at all.
Well, I'll say it again. Atheists don't need to prosyletize. Humorless, zero-tolerant, pompous ministers like England do it for us. So, Frost. If your tired of needless restrictive taboos, we'll take you in. Welcome to the reasonable, superstition-free life!

The principle should just be glad that it wasn't an event with young ladies in low-cut dresses but they weren't dancing IN them.
Oh, I'm sorry. That was definitely an impure thought on my part. I'm going to have lash myself with a whip now!
Good for him. It's a free country and people should be able to do as they please, as long as it's legal.
I wonder if the kid is already a closet atheist. It wouldn't be shocking. Maybe there is a copy of "The Good Delusion" under his mattress.
Hemant Mehta also wrote about this story.
Hemant made a point that I realize is actually true. The principal of the fascist school was so worried about low-cut dresses that he's handicapping a teen academicly for going to a prom. However, most girls (as pointed out by Hemant) wear more at proms. I realized he's right. They wear those floor length frilly dresses. Hey, if that bothers that principal, he better never go to the beach. He'd have a coronary.
