If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:26This one verse seems to be saying that Jesus encouraged his followers to leave their families. As a matter of fact, he seems to be saying that if you love someone else, then you can't love Jesus enough to satisfy him. This verse makes Jesus sound like more of a cult leader than like the son of God.
This verse is in stark contradiction to many other verses in the bible.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15See also Leviticus 19:17 and 1 John 4:20-21.
